Avalon Biometrics and Regula set for SDW 2012

Avalon Biometrics and Regula are set to unveil the AB 8703 passport and ID scanner at this year’s Security Document World (SDW) 2012 show.
The new device has more than 1040 DPI and is a full-page passport scanner with a transmitted light table that allows for capture and transmission of watermark images.
Avalon says it received the contract for the design and delivery of the full-page passport and ID scanner back in July 2010. Having examined the market and discussed capabilities with various suppliers Avalon joined forces with Regula.
The first three prototypes of the device were delivered in December 2010. In the beginning of 2011 a transmitted light table was added in the cover of the scanner with a pressing mechanism and snapshot functionality.
According to the companies the units are fitted in a ruggedised, water and dustproof ABC case with a custom metal base plate, USB connectors and include rechargeable batteries designed by Regula, suited for a Panasonic Tough book along with a communication unit for VSAT, WLAN hotspot, and VOIP capabilities for use in the field at checkpoints around the world.
The system features the same functionality as a full-page passport reader, including BAC, AA, PA and EAC.
Regula will present the device for the first time at SDW 2012 in the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, in London from 21 May – 23 May 2012.
