Regula wins BSI certification

Regula series 7024 from eID and ePassport inspection system provider Regula has been certified by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) as being compliant to Extended Access Control 2 (EAC2) test standards.
The firm became the first supplier to receive a BSI certificate for EAC, version 1.2, in 2010.
In addition to the testing procedures for ePassports and eID cards secured by Basic Access Control (BAC), EAC and Password Authenticated Connection Establishment (PACE), the evaluation also tests conformance with the ISO 7816 standard for the communication protocol and the proper processing of the data read from the eID document.
HJP Consulting managed the test and certification process on behalf of Regula. It partnered with test laboratory TÜV IT, which is accredited by the German BSI to conformity test eIDs, ePassports and respective inspection systems as part of the test and certification process.
To ensure a device passes the official conformity testing phase at the accredited laboratory, HJP engineers perform a pre-test at HJP premises. They use HJP’s own conformity testing tool, GlobalTester, to check that all tests conform with BSI TR-03105 part 5.1 and part 5.2. GlobalTester is an Open Source platform that tests the chips in eIDs, ePassports and readers for clients worldwide.
The BSI is one of the few government agencies in the world that certifies eID documents and inspection systems to prove they conform with the relevant standards.
Regula document readers are used at borders across Europe and in other regions of the world. Its new version of its Software Development Kit (SDK) with support for EAC2 is available to all Regula customers.
