ISO 14298 certification for MorphoTrust

MorphoTrust USA, which produces 80% of driver licenses in the US, has achieved a high certification for superior security standards in its credential production process from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The certification, ISO 14298, governs security printing and specifies the highest possible security requirements for certain printing systems. MorphoTrust says it achieved the certification at one of its credential production facilities operating in an undisclosed location in the US, making it the first ID manufacturer in the Americas to receive this certification.

“The American people place a high level of trust in the authenticity of the driver license as the primary document to prove their identities,” says Dennis Kallelis, chief security officer at MorphoTrust USA. “The security processes at our credential production facilities ensure that this level of trust is well placed. We will continue to focus on achieving certifications, such as ANSI, NASPO and ISO, that demonstrate our pursuit of the highest security standards possible.”

With this ISO certification, MorphoTrust says it has been recognised for taking significant steps to reduce, eliminate, and prevent security threats to the ID production process as identified by an independent organisational risk assessment. MorphoTrust’s security printing management system complies with relevant laws and regulations in force, and also demonstrates MorphoTrust’s commitment to assisting customers in becoming compliant with the REAL ID Act. The ISO certification is renewed annually.

“Protecting citizens’ privacy and personally identifiable information is integral to the work we do in producing secure documents like driver licenses,”  says Dr James Kottas, chief privacy officer at MorphoTrust USA. “Achieving the ISO certification is a demonstration of MorphoTrust’s continuing commitment to be the top experts in secure credential production in the United States.”

In 2013, MorphoTrust’s credential production facilities were also recognised by the North American Security Product Organization (NASPO) with a Class I certification, demonstrating that the company has taken steps to eliminate the highest levels of risk to its facilities and the licenses it produces.
