Bucharest airport seeking face recognition system

07/12/17

Romania's national airport organisation, the National Company Bucharest Airports (CNAB) plans to expand the closed circuit television system (CCTV) of the 'Henri Coanda' International Airport to include facial recognition systems.

The CNAB plans to spend 8.8 million euros ($10.3 million) for the modernisation, re-engineering and expansion of the airport.

According to a call for bids posted in the Electronic Public Procurement System (SEAP), the plan includes supply and installation of a "facial recognition system", and the supply and installation of a solution for the automatic recognition of vehicle registration plates.

The old analog and digital CCTV subsystems that are technically and morally obsolete will also be upgraded with a latest-generation digital IP subsystem.

The operation also envisages increasing the number of existing video cameras to areas so far not under video coverage: public areas, technical space (including the parking lots, the TAROM hangar, runway ends), airport platforms, the official hall, outer access checkpoints, the airport perimeter, public parking lots and other areas requiring the system's expansion for reasons of civil aviation security.
