Azerbaijan launches biometric ID


Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev has been presented with the first national biometric ID card to be issued.

The new generation electronic identity cards will be distributed to the Azeri public from September 1.

Local media reported that Minister of Internal Affairs Ramil Usubov and Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev informed President Ilham Aliyev on preparation and issuance of the electronic identity cards to citizens.

The electronic ID card contains a chip, the owner's biometric photo and other personal data.
