Japan's METI releases report on identity verification in online services

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry released, on 17 April 2020, a report on identity verification in online services.

In particular, the Report highlights methods for businesses and service providers to assess risks and determine the importance of identification tools, as well as proposing methods to strengthen identification mechanisms such as, biometric, terminal, and SMS authentication.

Furthermore, the Report examines the possibility of utilising the confirmed data application program interfaces provided by financial institutions and telecommunications carriers to strengthen identification methods.
