Afghans in Iraq to get eID, ePassports

Afghan refugees in Iran will receive identity cards and electronic passports, Afghan Ambassador to Iran Ghafoor Leval said August 22, Ariana News reported.

“A working group from Afghanistan went to Iran to work on identifying refugees, issuing identity cards and electronic passports,” Leval said after meeting with Iranian officials.

He also noted that a comprehensive strategic document on economic, trade and investment relations was signed between the two countries.

In Iran there are about three million Afghan refugees, both with documents and without. The refugee problem has repeatedly caused serious complications in relations between the two countries.

So, in May of this year, it became known about the deaths of several Afghan illegal migrants, whom, according to the testimony of residents of the Gulran district of the Herat province, bordering Iran, Iranian border guards were tortured and thrown into the river, the media remind.
