SAFE ID personalises Liechtenstein ePassport

SAFE ID Solutions, a German supplier of passport personalization solutions, has announced it was a key partner in the introduction of the new ePassport of the Government of Liechtenstein. The company worked alongside booklet provider and integrator, OeSD, in the project.

Back in October last year, the US Department of Homeland Security said that Andorra, Brunei and Liechtenstein did not meet the visa waiver deadline of 26 October 2006. However, the head of the country’s passport service told SDW that despite reports they did indeed begin rolling out ePassports on time.

According to Hans Peter Walch from the Liechtenstein Office for Immigration and Passports: “We are happy with the selection of SAFE ID Solutions as supplier of both, inkjet based personalization hardware and personalization management software for Liechtenstein’s new electronic passport. The fully integrated solution fulfilled our highest expectations and enabled a fast, reliable and highly secure realization of this complex project on time and within budget.”

SAFE ID delivered and installed its passport solutions combining manual personalization systems and the PSS Personalization Management Software. SAFE ID was also responsible for the evaluation and planning of the new passport design as well as several further factors related to the issuance system.

“To ensure a seamless transfer from a standard passport to a biometric enabled electronic passport system, a number of factors such as secure data communication, key infrastructure, ICAO LDS data generation or the correct addressing of the passport’s chip operating system have to be considered and evaluated”, explains Hans-Peter Kraus, VP Software Development at SAFE ID Solutions.

Liechtenstein’s national ePassport infrastructures reportedly enables passport issuance within less then 30 minutes from application to final hand out.
