The Australian government has announced plans to introduce body scanning technology at its international airports.
The move is part of a wider scheme aimed at boosting airport security. Other measures will include the implementation of next generation multi-view x-ray machines and bottle scanners designed to detect liquid-based explosives. Funds will also be devoted to security plans aimed at enhancing passenger assessment and clearance procedures.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says the body scanners will be introduced progressively as an additional screening measure by early 2011.
