Finland amends Aliens Act

22 July 2010

Finland’s Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed amendments to its Aliens Act as it makes moves to introduce biometric residence permits for foreigners by 2011.

The introduction of the residence cards for foreigners is in line with EC Regulation 380/2008, which sets out the requirements for such documents.

A facial image and two fingerprints will be stored in the chip embedded in the card and fingerprint data will be used by police for identification in the case of an emergency or crime.
