Hovhannes Kocharyan, the new head of the Office of Visas and Passports of Armenian Police has confirmed that biometric passports will be in use in the country from June 2012.

The confirmation follows the completion of legislative preparations in November 2011.

Kocharyan has told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the new biometric passport provides more opportunities for identifying a person, as it contains person’s biometric data, fingerprints, photo and signature. Additionally, the EU trusts it, and it gives passport holders faster passage through airports.
