eGates for Dubai’s terminal three
30 April 2012
Dubai Airport has opened a new eGate system that will see travellers speed through border control.
The new system, which is based on biometric face recognition, is initially being rolled out in the airport’s terminal three. According to Gulf News it will eventually be installed across all the airport’s immigration entry and exit points.
The system will match biometric and passport details against traveller lists in a process that is expected to take less than 15 seconds.
“Working in an airport that is considered one of the fastest growing in the world represents a challenge for all of us in facilitating the entry and exit of passengers without affecting security standards,” says Major General Mohammad Al Merri, head of Dubai General Directorate for Residency and Foreign Affairs.
