St Kitts and Nevis set for ePassports
The Caribbean nation of St Kitts and Nevis has started issuing ePassports to citizens from today [5 January 2012].
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Homeland Security, Labour and Social Security said the new documents have several improved security features and are being introduced as part of its on-going efforts to prevent fraud and identity theft.
Citizens will not be required to switch to the new format until their current passport expires.
The government said: “The new document to be issued by the Government of St Kitts and Nevis is more secure and designed with specific embedded features intended to enhance the integrity of the new ePassport. It will facilitate more seamless travel by citizens and residents of the Federation.”
Prices for the new ePassports are:
- 32-page documents for those aged under 16 or over 65 – EC$150
- 32-page documents for those aged between 16 and 65 – EC$250
