Lithuania selects Rochford Thompson scanners

UK-based ePassport reader manufacturer Rochford Thompson has won a €1.8m contract to provide passport scanners for use in Lithuania. The supplier says the document readers will be used at border control points and also by police, immigration and Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials.

In 2004, Lithuania became part of both the EU and the Schengen Agreement – under which border controls between EU countries are relaxed, but maintained at a high level between EU and non-EU countries.

Lithuanian integrator AIDETA – a subsidiary company of ORDI - was commissioned to provide enhanced security technology for Lithuanian border guards as part of the country’s process of integration with the 15 other Schengen members.

Rochford Thompson document scanning technology is already in use by numerous governments, most notably the US Department of Homeland Security.

The contract, due to be completed this year, includes 20 RTE6701 and 85 RTE8000 scanners, plus PCs, laser printers and networking provided by AIDETA.
