Mongolia’s government has pledged to replace its current ID system with eID technology.
Following the international trend, the new documents are likely to contain the biometric face and fingerprint details as well as personal data of each card holder. They will also be linked to government departments involved in tax, elections and military recruitment. The new documents could eventually be used for social allowances, social security, health and education.
According to local news reports, the new ID cards are expected to be available to Mongolian citizens from October 2011.
