Safelayer set for LATAM expansion
Safelayer Secure Communications has confirmed it will provide its digital certification and PKI solutions for developing digital identification infrastructures in Paraguay and Uruguay and so expand its operations in Latin America.
The project awarded to Safelayer’s partners, ISA Ltda and Bull Uruguay SA, is backed by Mercado Común del Sur (MERCOSUR) Digital and will foster eCommerce between MERCOSUR countries and the European Union.
ISA Ltda, which has more than 10 years experience in digital signature and electronic document management projects, and Bull, which has experience in large-scale projects and has taken part in some of Europe’s major PKI projects, will implement Paraguay’s root Certification Authority and Uruguay’s top level certification authority. In Paraguay, ISA Ltda, will work closely with PS Line, which has more than two decades of experience offering hardware solutions to the IT market.
The company says: ”Digital identification security is built upon infrastructures based on PKI technology that are interoperable with the infrastructures of other countries. This facilitates communication and the secure exchange of information, both nationally and internationally. According to Francisco Jordán, Safelayer’s CEO and cofounder, “Safelayer’s security solutions provide a complete set of PKI components for deploying critical and interoperable infrastructures, including electronic identity documents (citizen eID and ePassport) and digital certificates for companies.”
Safelayer already has a strong record in Latin America, with references including the Uruguay National Postal Administration, Certicamara Chamber of Commerce Digital Certification in Colombia, the Border Service of Panama and Banrisul in Brazil. It will take part in supplying the latest generation of security solutions based on PKI technology and digital certificates for implementing the certification authorities. Both projects are to start this year and are expected to be completed in 2012.
