NEC and GIT sign AFIS deal

United Arab Emirates systems integrator Global Information Technology (GIT) and Japanese provider of AFIS systems NEC have signed an agreement to develop an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to support GIT’s existing ePassport and national ID solutions.

According to GIT CEO Salim Abdalla: “The signing was the start of a strong strategic relationship and both companies are looking forward to working together on existing and future projects involving border control, passports, biometric capturing and security solutions.”

Hideaki Asada, assistant manager of NEC said that the companies have concluded the contract in preparation for an e-passport and national ID project in a North African country. Asada added: “We…feel that this contract will be the start of a close business relationship with larger projects on the horizon.”
