The MEDEA+ ONOM@TOPIC+ project has been shortlisted as one of the three finalists for the EUREKA Innovation award.

The project has focussed on the development of complete hardware and embedded software platforms to enable the industry to benefit from the development of secure fixed and mobile electronic services, and has targeted platforms for two sectors:

·         Citizenship services such as eID cards, ePassports, visas, driving licenses and eHealth cards;

·         Security solutions for mobile communications and the multimedia operating environment.

Gemalto – one of the players in the project – developed the Sealys Identification Authentication Signature technology, which is being used in the project. This provides a framework for deploying eID documents that offer cross-border access to eGovernment services. It says that international standards support the success of the ONOM@TOPIC+ project.

EUREKA is a pan-European initiative involving 38 member countries with the shared goal of supporting companies and research institutes in transnational R&D projects.
