Gemalto’s Multimedia Product Line director, Frédéric Leclef, has been elected as head of the Java Card Forum’s (JCF) Business Committee.
Mr Leclef, who replaces outgoing head Frank Edme, says: “The market is dramatically evolving towards a convergent environment, where Internet and wireless technologies are becoming one unique infrastructure, enabling users to access numerous services and applications from many devices, using all kinds of networks.”
He adds: “Next Generation Java Card is a great opportunity to create an interoperable platform for a new range of secure applications. This standard, which uses IP technology that is already well deployed outside the smart card world, will facilitate the development of new applications and services. Markets which will benefit include government, telecom, corporate ID and payment.”
“We are pleased to welcome Frédéric to the role of business chair,” says Christian Goire, president of the JCF. ““Frédéric is one of the foremost business evangelists, promoting multimedia use cases utilising convergent Internet technologies on both smart cards and secure tokens. The success of these future deployments is based on the availability of Next Generation Java Card technology and features. Frédéric can certainly bring his wealth of experience in multimedia services to his role as chair of the Business Committee.”
