Gemalto’s government-certified Smart Guardian (SG) FIPS has received the Outstanding Innovation in Security Technology Award at this year’s Smart Card Alliance Annual Conference.
The SG FIPS is a smart card-based encrypted USB drive that has FIPS 140-2 level 3 certification, and meets the US military 810-F environmental standard. It provides data-at-rest protection for all government data. Agencies have the option to strongly bind the SG FIPS to their employees government issued Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credential, granting access to the protected storage based upon a successful PIV authentication.
“To be the first recipient of the Innovation in Security Technology award from the Alliance is a great achievement for us, and a testament to the way Gemalto solves real world security challenges,” says Paul Beverly, president of Gemalto North America. “The SG FIPS provides protection of confidential data-at-rest for government employees that are increasingly working on laptops or other mobile devices, in the convenience of a zero-footprint USB removable media drive.”
In a separate move, the Smart Card Alliance recognised Neville Pattinson, vice president of Government Affairs as a leading figure in the Alliance Identity Council. It also recognised Michael Magrath, director of Business Development for Government and Healthcare as a top contributor to the Alliance Healthcare Council.
