UAE rolls out new generation of ID cards
The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) has started issuing a new generation of ID cards containing a larger memory capacity to allow greater data storage.
The development is part of EIDA’s strategy to improve eServices and follows the completion of infrastructure required for PKI.
H.E Dr Eng Ali Mohamed Al Khouri, Emirates ID director general, has told local reporters that the technology opens the door for integrating a number of applications in the ID card in the future.
The new card contains contact and contactless technologies as well as fingerprint biometrics. It can be used to verify users’ identities when accessing government services, distance learning, eCommerce and other systems requiring safe and reliable communications.
