MULTOS hits the 100 million mark
MULTOS technology providers saw a record breaking 2011 with more than 100 million chips being delivered to customers in just one year, bringing the current MULTOS issuance total to well in excess of 300 million cards, so says MAOSCO, the Secretariat of The MULTOS Consortium.
MULTOS products are deployed in markets such as government ID, EMV migration and embedded security markets. The 2011 results were predominantly related to the significant uptake of MULTOS cards within the banking industry for EMV migration, covering all the global payment brands and now including numerous local and regional ATM/debit card schemes.
“It has been a phenomenal year for MULTOS,” says Dave Meadon, chairman of The MULTOS Consortium Council. “These 2011 results show that MULTOS is recognised as a trusted platform for the payments business around the world.”
The consortium says its presence within the ID market remains strong with a number of fully established national ID implementations in place.
