German printer wins Slovak ID card deal

Slovakia has commissioned German security printer Bundesdruckerei to produce ID documents, including ID cards and driving licenses.

On behalf of the Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic, the company will supply around three million ID cards and 1.6 million driving licenses over the next four years. These will all comply with new EU standards and will be produced in credit-card format (ID1 format).

The cards are to be made of polycarbonate and can be personalised using laser-engraving equipment.

This deal follows others in recent months, including projects in Luxembourg, Latvia and Lithuania.
