Global Enterprise Technologies (GET Group), a producer of passport and ID issuing solutions, has announced the successful upgrade of Malaysia’s ePassport system for the Department of Immigration (DOI).
Malaysia was the first country in the world to issue an ePassport in March 1998. The downside of being a pioneer was that the document subsequently did not adhere to the strict ICAO standards.
This upgrade enables Malaysia to now issue highly secure ePassports fully compliant with the highest travel document standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
GET Group delivered the ePassport solution upgrade in cooperation with its local partner and prime contractor TAR-GET along with numerous Malaysian technology vendors which include IRIS, PKN and Heitech Padu.
The fully integrated ePassport issuing solution utilizes proprietary personalization software, Toppan E2000 ePassport printers and high security laminate films provided exclusively by GET Group. New ICAO compliant chips and inlays were provided by IRIS, PKN supplied newly designed passport booklets while Heitech Padu contributed both front and back end issuing software applications.
According to GET Group the newly introduced features of the Malaysian ePassport offer some of the highest levels of security currently available. This security is not only achieved through electronic encoding and encryption of the passport holder’s data, photo and thumbprint on the passport’s smart chip, but is enhanced by a completely redesigned data page protected by the latest Toppan EDE Crystagram security laminate film. This laminate film incorporates a number of newly developed, highly sophisticated optical security elements.
