Security products debut at CeBIT

Coinciding with the start of this year’s CeBIT exhibition, SAFE ID Solutions has unveiled the next generation of its automated inkjet-based passport personalisation product, the AS 1000.

This uses a closed-loop system to provide security and can be integrated with SAFE ID’s secure production management software. The latest version of AS 1000 has a modular design which, the company says, enables it to be implemented into existing personalisation management environments and customised to fit into specific workflows. Optional modules include RFID and quality assurance components as well as optical camera systems for passport number reading and accurate alignment of printed data. XML data interchange software (PSI) also allows integration into existing personalisation management systems.

The system can personalise passports with up to 2880dpi full-colour piezo inkjet printing. The company claims that, depending on configuration, it is also able to personalise more than 60 passports per hour.

“Because it is modular, the system can be easily upgraded to enable RFID functionality and can also be adjusted to change the number of cameras, quality control modules and print heads used, enabling even faster throughput, says Oscar Lazaro, VP Sales & Marketing at SAFE ID. This ensures customers have a future-proof investment which enables them to implement standard passport schemes today that can be upgraded to serve an ePassport scheme in the future without having to change the entire solution.”
