The SecuriMetrics division of Viisage Technology has received an order from the US Department of Defense (DOD) valued at more than US$10 million.
The company sees the order – for Handheld Interagency Identity Detection Equipment (HIIDE) devices, which use multimodal identity enrolment and recognition technology – as a major step forward in the adoption of multimodal biometric recognition technologies.
“This order is a watershed event for the industry and demonstrates an emerging market for multimodal biometric recognition products,” says Bob LaPenta, chairman of the board of Viisage and founder and CEO of L-1 Investment Partners.
SecuriMetrics introduced the HIIDE product in 2005, and claims it is the world’s first handheld, fully function multimodal device that uses iris, finger and facial recognition.
